"Within you is the voice of a gentle spirit. If you listen, it will speak to you of strength and encourage you with reassurance. If you trust it, it will lead you home."

What is a doula?

Picture
Greek for 'a woman who serves,' a doula is a woman who is experienced in childbirth education and labor and birth comfort practices.  Because a doula's role is totally non-medical and completely 'mothering of the new mother' a doula can focus her attention on providing emotional support and encouragement to the laboring mom and her birth partner.
The doula can meet you in your home, birth center, or hospital whenever you feel the time is needed and stay with you for the duration of the birth and until successful latching on at the breast.

Why invite Boy Girl Birth Doula?

_ "I'm so thankful to have found Jillian to be with me during my labor. She gave me great advice beforehand, and I felt as prepared as one can be for my first childbirth experience. She was the calm, reassuring presence that I needed while laboring. Jillian knew what I needed to hear and when, while allowing my husband and me to work through the experience as a couple. I could not have imagined a better guide for this amazing journey!" -first time mama

"When I saw the look on my husband's face after Jillian performed "woman-in-labor," I knew that this was exactly why I'd chosen a doula: to prepare us both for the realities of birth.  And when I was finally the one in labor, my own contractions seemed more manageable-- when I was tempted to think "these will last forever!" I knew they would soon subside to let me rest, thanks to those ice cube exercises. But the most important role Jillian filled was that of a supportive advocate for my post-birth well being. Every new mother needs respectful, attentive, and encouraging advocates in the form of a women with practical knowledge and experience. With Jillian by my side, I never had to feel alone in the overwhelming first moments of motherhood."   -first time mom, birth center birth

"Jillian's birthing class and doula support were beneficial to me because she did not focus on the "medical" aspects of birthing but more on the emotional side. I felt that the classes and our time with her prepared me emotionally and gave me the confidence that 'I can do this.' During the birth, Jillian's support was constant and calm when everything else around me felt like it was out of control."
-first time mom, hospital birth

"During the labor, Jillian and my husband were right there reminding me to breath. They were both very helpful and I am so glad we took the classes. If we had gone without these classes, I feel the labor and birth would have been much more difficult and stressful."
