What are new parents saying about this class?
"Jillian's class helped build a sense of trust and respect between my husband and me so that now we consider the birth a shared experience." -first time mom
"I liked how honest Jillian was about what labor would be like. She was also very thought provoking. I loved the class, loved Jillian and so glad that we were as prepared as we were for labor!"
"One of the most important things I took away from class, besides the coping techniques for pain management, was getting rid of my "tiger"- fear of having to go to the hospital and not have the birth experience I wanted. I realized and accepted that no matter what my birth experience was, it would be special, wonderful, and it didn't matter if I couldn't have a water birth at a birth center. This helped me a lot when Vivienne was 10 days past due, and I was not at all freaked out if I ended up having to be induced with a c-section. I just accepted that if it had to be that way so be it. Fortunately, I was able to have the kind of birth experience I had hoped for; but it felt good to be able to let go. Another important thing I learned from class, but really understood during the birth process, is that the pain of labor serves an important biological purpose. It is there for a reason; and therefore choosing a drug- free birth made even more sense to me. It was also helpful seeing Jillian do the birth theater- it gave both of us a sense of what to expect during the laboring through contraction moments. And when my time came, it made so much sense to express myself in that way :) Thank you again, Jillian, for all you did to help prepare us for the birth!" -first time mom, birth center birth
"Jillian's Birthing From Within classes really taught me to 'let go' by dropping my type A tendencies and really allowing myself to go into that right-brained part of myself that let my body lead my birth. Once I let my body take over, experiencing 'laborland' was actually amazing, and for me, not scary at all. I was able to embrace my birth warrior and have an amazing birth experience I'll always treasure."
"I truly believe the knowledge and practice I gained from Jillian's class played an important role in the peaceful, natural birth of my daughter. The class helped build my confidence, understand the physiology of labor and delivery, and master valuable pain coping techniques." -first time mom, birth center
"One thing I learned in the class that was helpful to us during postpartum is that mothers need to be nurtured and cared for- I would have tried to do it all myself and deny my own needs."
"I think what I took from the class most, was to just stay in the moment and breathe through each contraction. Also to know, that it wasn't continuous and that I would have a break in between each contraction. The labor theater that Jillian performed gave us an idea of what it would be like to have a contraction, which I thought was helpful in knowing what to expect. Also just talking to Jillian, a mom, who has gone through it, and being available to answer any questions that we had was reassuring. It was comforting being in a class with other new parents going through a similar experience and time in our lives." -first time mom, birth center birth
"Jillian is truly a blessing to every mom/dad she comes across." -first time mom, hospital birth
"Jillian did a great job teaching the class in our home and made us feel very comfortable. One of the most valuable tools I learned was to focus on my breath and to just breathe through the pain of the contraction. Also, the classes helped my husband to understand what I would be going through which made our relationship so much stronger."
"I would absolutely recommend Jillian's classes to other parents. Everything about our birth experience was positive, thanks to what Jillian taught us."
"I appreciated that Jillian seemed to do her research and really took her job as instructor seriously. I also benefited from the practical pain coping techniques and the talk about cesarean birth. Overall, the class gave us more confidence and helped my husband help me with pain coping and become more engaged in the birthing process."
"Now that our baby is here, looking back on what helped me through labor...I think the circular breathing technique that Jillian taught us worked the best for me..finding the center and dealing with the pain that way seemed to work as well..also just remembering that women have been going through what I am going through for centuries and that I can make it through as well."
"One thing I learned in class that I didn't understand at the time was that articulating my thoughts or wishes would be so HARD to do in the middle of my birth!! And that 'birth shock' is a normal experience."
